Oh, how we love the grape juice!!
We finally broke out of our mold of traveling to Napa and Sonoma and finally got up to the central coast to Paso Robles. We only had a single day to go wine tasting and it certainly was a whirlwind of a trip. It left us asking "So when are we coming back and where are we staying next time?" For the last 2 years, every bottle of wine from Paso Robles that I've bought has come from my favorite wine shop Meritage. They all have been excellent. So when my friends Tish and Andy asked if we were game for a road trip, there was no pause for the answer of "Hell Yes!!!" We were first treated to a special and very welcoming evening by their friends Larry and Karen Thomas and their son Mark and his wife Courtney. They opened up their beautiful home to us and shared local wines and many beers. There were Tri-tip pizzas where the meat was grilled for hours prior to our arrival. They also a prepared couple of specialty pizzas that I don't think you'll ever find in any fine pizzerias.
Our first winery was actually in San Louis Obispo, just south of Paso Robles, Kynsi Winery. It's an old converted dairy with a great outdoor tasting area. Loved their Hutash wine!!!
Our second and my favorite winery of the day was Justin Winery. After traveling along winding roads and laughing hysterically we finally got to our destination. I found my new favorite California wine here, Isosceles. It's a shame that I won't be able to afford to drink this every night but it sure will be fun to share it on special occasions.
This was our fun group of tasters. Tish, Andy, Mark, Mike, and Courtney. Thank you, Mark, for being our designated driver and super awesome host. We needed you!!!!
We then spent time over at Tablas Creek Vineyard and sat out on their beautiful patio and shared a couple of bottles of their Grenache Blanc. Andy has a friend named Beth that owns Caliza Winery which was a 10-minute drive from Tablas Creek. So, of course, we had to check it out as well and we were not disappointed.
That would be Luci, Tish and Andy's dog that joined us on our adventure. She prefers whites.
Now as the professional wine drinkers that we all pretend to be, you would think we would know better than to continue to a 5th wine tasting. Especially after not eating a proper lunch. Sadly we continued.
Our last tasting was Cypher Winery. I only know this because of the pictures on my camera. From what I remember, it was fun. Thank you again, Mark, for being our driver and getting us home safely.
I will stop posting pictures from here on out for this trip unless I get special permission.
Overall it was a blast of a day and I came home with a case of great wine I can't wait to share with myself!! Paso Robles has over 200 wineries and there are too few days to get to all of them. I'll do my best to pick up a bottle of wine every time I see its made in Paso and give it a try. Cheers.
