In May of 2011, my husband and I were lucky enough to find a package deal through Air Tahiti that afforded us to be able to get over to the beautiful Island of Moorea for our 3rd wedding anniversary. After a night on Tahiti, we sailed over to Moorea to stay at the Manava Beach Resort and Spa (Once called the Moorea Pearl Resort and Spa). We stayed in a charming Polynesian style bungalow with a small plunge pool and lush garden. There was complete privacy and the option to dip into your own private pool was wonderful no matter what time of day it was.
Our days were spent exploring the island on a moped that was much too small for two people (get your own!). We lounged poolside while slinging back rum cocktails out of plastic tumblers and snorkeling through the stilts of overwater bungalows out into the clear waters of the lagoon.
Our constant search and sampling of the perfect Poisson Cru (Tahiti's national dish of fresh raw fish marinated in coconut juice) at other resorts around the island lead to a continuous Mai Tai sampling as well. This kept our bellies filled and our spirits happy during the day. Unfortunately, we can't remember where we actually had the best Poisson Cru of our lives. As I recall, every time we ate a beautifully decorated bowl of Poisson Cru the words "Oh, this is it! This is the best one!" would come flowing our of our mouths while we dribbled lime juice down our chins.

We rented a scooter for the day and leisurely puttered around the island making tons of scenic stops. As every tourist to Moorea is advised to do, we climbed our way up to the highest point, Belvedere Lookout. We were rewarded with awesome views and plenty of laughs while watching people attempt to get the best spot to have their "I was here" picture taken without getting strangers in their picture.
The perfect libation to accompany any French Polynesian foods, a fruity cold Mai Tai.
