Oh how lucky we were to be able to enjoy a resort as remarkable and stunning as Gili Lankenfushi Resort and Spa. For our 13th wedding anniversary, I was able to book nine glorious nights here with the help of my travel agent and friend of over 20 years. During the height of COVID, I helped run a vaccination center and used every cent I made in overtime to afford us an extravagant indulgence like this. Now it's a memory I will have for the rest of my life. You won't see a U-Haul behind my hearse. I plan on dying with memories, adventures, experiences, and very little money left in the bank. Gili Lankanfushi, which was previously known as Soneva Gili, is situated in the Indian Ocean on the private island of Lankanfushi in the North Malé Atoll of the Maldives and is one of the very tippy top resorts in the Maldives. The resort is located a short 20-minute trip in a speedboat from Male International Airport. Upon arrival at the airport, the hotel staff will take care of your smooth and trouble-free transfer to the resort. This is a huge advantage as compared to some of the more isolated islands in the Maldives that can only be reached with a connecting flight on a seaplane. There are 47 vast water villa suites. The living areas, including the bedrooms and the bathrooms, are completely open on the outside with big doors and windows looking over the ocean, open-air walkways, and rooftop sun decks. There is even a second bed on the second level so you can sleep under the stars. There are private steps from your bathroom leading down to your own secluded water garden. Spend at least one night sleeping under the stars. The light pollution is almost non existent. The scenery at Gili Lankanfushi is breathtaking. Powder-soft and sugar-white beaches, lush tropical vegetation with plenty of palm trees, and impossibly turquoise, clear waters in Gili’s Lankanfushi’s stunning lagoon will await you. This is the epitome of paradise (and it will raise your standard for future holidays). You can watch a movie under the stars in the island jungle cinema. We had every intention of doing this but couldn't pull ourselves away from our villa. The food is epic. There is a different theme every night with a stunning choice of set-ups and menus based on top ingredients only, including fresh products harvested from the island's organic garden and prepared by passionate Chefs from around the world. From dining on the deck of your Villa to an underground wine cave, from a floating lounge deck to a restaurant uniquely set on the beach, an elevated table hidden in the middle of the coconut tree palms, and a stunning Japanese restaurant.
