Who doesn't dream of the Greek Isles?
The gorgeous pastel colors, the private beaches, the fresh seafood, the ancient history and most notably, the views. My husband would sit in a chair on our balcony with a cocktail in his hand, looking down in the Santorini Caldera thinking what he was seeing wasn't real. He kept repeating that he felt like he was looking into a movie green screen. That what he was seeing wasn't real. "This view can't be real. I've never seen anything like this. I feel like someone is going to flip a switch and it will disappear". It never did.
In June of 2006, after a two-week adventure through Turkey with our friends Scott and Milo, we decided to end our go go go trip on the beautiful islands of Mykonos and Santorini. We planned on spending our days on ATVs cruising from one beach to the next, eating fresh seafood, drinking cocktail on our balcony, and processing all the vibrant colors of the harbors.
In Mykonos we stayed at Cavo Taggo Hotel. From here we could walk down to Mykonos Town on a road with no pedestrian sidewalks and packed buses of tourists from cruise ships.
Super Paradise Beach on Mykonos.
Leaving Mykonos we took a hovercraft to the magical island of Santorini to stay in the town of Oia. Our hotel was high on the cliffs of the caldera with perfect sunset views and voyeuristic glimpses of how other people spent their days.
We stayed at Canaves Oia Hotel. Here we had a two-bedroom apartment with our own private plunge pool and a desire to one day come back.
