For the last 2 years every bottle from Paso Robles I've bought from my favorite wine shop Meritage, has been excellent. So when my friends Tish and Andy asked if we were game for a road trip, there was no pause for the answer of "Hell Yes!!!"
We were first treated to a special and very welcoming evening by their friends Larry and Karen Thomas and their son Mark and his wife Courtney. They opened up their beautiful home to us and shared their local wines and many beers and made us tri tip pizzas that they grilled for hours before we got there. There were also a couple of specialties that I don't think you will ever find in any fine pizzerias.
We then spent time over at Tablas Creek Vineyard and sat out on their beautiful patio and shared a couple bottles of their Grenache Blanc.
Andy has a friend named Beth that owns Caliza Winery which was a 10 minute drive from Tablas Creek. So of course we had to check it out as well and we were not disappointed.
Our last tasting was Cyher Winery. I only know this because of the pictures on my camera. From what I remember, it was fun.
Thank you again Mark for being our driver.
Overall it was a blast of a day and I came home with a case of great wines I can't wait to share with myself!!
Paso Robles has over 200 wineries and too few days to get to all of them. I'll do my best to pick up a bottle of wine every time I see its made in Paso and give it a try.
